As part of the SatBałtyk project, the University of Szczecin is carrying out a comprehensive survey of the coastal zone. The work involves gathering data using remote-sensing methods, video-monitoring technology, as well as field data using GPS RTK. The aim of the survey is to acquire an understanding of the patterns occurring in the coastal zone of a tideless sea (such as the Baltic) and to model and forecast them. Particular attention is being paid to storm events, which transform the coastal zone to the greatest degree. In addition, the survey also involves obtaining measurements from sea level gauges, wave action and currents. Getting to know the local hydrodynamic conditions and linking them with the magnitudes of volumetric changes along the coast provide new knowledge of the processes taking place in these waters and will enable some coastal phenomena to be predicted with the aid of numerical prognostic models.
